TL;DR β€” anonymous extension use stays anonymous. We count active users in aggregate using a random ID that resets every month, and that’s it. Email subscribers give us their name and email; we use it to send the weekly deal digest and nothing else. We never sell or share your details with anyone outside our weekly email.

Two ways to use Deal Dozer

You choose the level of data you share with us. Both modes work β€” the extension functions identically in either.

1. Anonymous mode (default)

If you install the extension and never sign up for anything, we don’t know who you are. We don’t know your email, what you searched for, what you bought, what sites you visited, or which deals you saw. The only data we receive is the deals-list fetch and a once-per-day anonymous active-user ping (both described below). The extension toast appears, you click through if you want, end of story.

We do count active users in aggregate. We need to know roughly how many people are using the extension each week and month to keep the project alive (it’s how we report numbers to retailer and content partners). We do that with the most privacy-preserving method we know of: a random ID stored in your browser that resets at the start of every calendar month, sent at most once per day, with no information about which sites you’re on.

2. Email subscriber (opt-in)

If you sign up for the weekly email at escapeoftheweek.com.au/deal-dozer, we collect your first name (so the email reads naturally) and your email address(so we can send you the weekly digest). That’s it. We don’t ask for your phone number, address, age, income, or anything else. One email a week. You can unsubscribe with one click from any email. We never sell or rent the list, and we don’t share your name or email with brands, advertisers, affiliates, or any third party.

What the extension cannot do

These aren’t promises β€” they’re enforced by the Chrome extension permission system. You can verify them yourself by opening chrome://extensions and checking what permissions Deal Dozer has declared (just storage).

  • ❌ Track which sites you visit (no tabs permission, no webRequest permission)
  • ❌ Read your cookies (no cookies permission)
  • ❌ Read your form data, passwords, or credit card numbers
  • ❌ Modify any link on any page you visit (the code is read-only β€” we inject one toast and do nothing else)
  • ❌ Inject affiliate cookies in the background (β€œcookie stuffing” β€” we do not do this)
  • ❌ Replace existing affiliate cookies set by content creators or other extensions
  • ❌ Send any identifying data about you, anywhere

Affiliate links

Deal Dozer uses affiliate links. When you click an affiliate link anywhere in Deal Dozer β€” the extension popup, the in-page toast that appears on supported stores, or this website β€” and then sign up to a partner program or make a purchase, we earn a commission that funds this free tool. It never costs you anything extra and never changes the cashback or earning rate you see.

We never inject affiliate cookies in the background, never rewrite URLs silently, and never apply promo codes without your explicit action. Affiliate tracking is only added when you click a clearly-labelled affiliate button. You can navigate to any partner directly via Google to skip our link. The full current list of affiliate partners we earn from is on this page in the Help us keep this free section above.

What the extension does send

The extension makes two outbound requests to escapeoftheweek.com.au. Both are described in full below; we make no other outbound requests.

Request 1 β€” Deals list. A single GET to fetch the current list of supported retailers and weekly deals. No query parameters, no user identifiers, no record of what site you’re on. If our server is unreachable, the extension falls back to a copy of the deals list bundled with the extension package.

Request 2 β€” Anonymous active-user heartbeat. A small POST sent at most once per day while alerts are enabled. The body is exactly one random 32-character ID β€” generated on your device, opaque, not derived from anything about you or your machine, and reset at the start of each calendar monthso a current-month ID cannot be linked to any prior month’s activity. Sent without cookies. It carries no record of the hostname, URL, or page title of any site you’re on, and no record of which deals you saw or clicked. If you toggle β€œShow tips” off, the heartbeat stops along with the rest of the extension’s activity.

Changes to this policy

If we change what data the extension touches, we will update this page and bump the β€œLast updated” date. Material changes (e.g. adding a new permission) will also be reflected in the Chrome Web Store update notes for the affected version.
