Fly Business Class to Asia for Less Than Half Price — Starting From Scratch
What if I told you that you could book a Business Class flight from Australia to Singapore — the same flight that usually retails for around $3,000 — for just over $1,100?
And here's the kicker: you don't need a single existing frequent flyer point. You don't need to be a current member of any loyalty program. You can be completely brand new to the points game, and by the time you finish reading this post, you'll know exactly how to lock in Business Class flights to Singapore, Bangkok and even Tokyo for a fraction of the cash price.
This is what people in the know have been doing for years and right now, there's a fresh promotion that makes it more lucrative than ever.
Let me show you how it works.
The Problem: Business Class to Asia Is Expensive
Let's start with reality. If you jump onto Singapore Airlines website right now and search Sydney to Singapore in Business Class, you're looking at around $3,000 to $4,000 for a one-way fare. Brisbane and Melbourne aren't much different.
Yes, if you're patient and you wait for a Singapore Airlines sale, you might shave a few hundred dollars off. If you book a return trip, you'll get a better per-leg rate. But you're still parting with thousands of dollars to sit up the pointy end of the plane.
So, how can we fly business class for a fraction of the price?
The Strategy: Air Canada Aeroplan + Singapore Airlines
The whole strategy hinges on one thing — Air Canada's loyalty program, Aeroplan.
Now, before you tune out because you've never flown Air Canada and have no plans to, stick with me. Here's why Aeroplan is one of the most powerful tools an Australian frequent flyer can have in their back pocket:
Air Canada is part of the Star Alliance, which means Aeroplan points can be redeemed across a huge network of partner airlines — including Singapore Airlines, Thai Airways and ANA. These are exactly the airlines that fly the routes Australians actually care about.
And the redemption rates are excellent. From Australia to South East Asia in Business Class? Just 45,000 Aeroplan points one-way, plus a small amount in fees. Compare that to the 90,000+ points other programs charge for the same route, and you start to see the value.
Now something to note: Air Canada is increasing the rates on most of their reward bookings shortly. This 45,000 rate will increase to 52,500 points from the 1st of June, 2026 as Air Canada devalues their partner awards. Certainly sucks but not a deal breaker.
Step 1: Sign Up to Aeroplan (It's Free and Takes 2 Minutes)
You don't need to be an existing Air Canada customer for any of this to work. Head to the Aeroplan website, click sign up, fill in the basics — name, email, address — and you're done.
There's no membership fee. No minimum spend. No waiting period. Once you've got your Aeroplan number, you're ready to start booking partner award seats.
Step 2: Find a Business Class Reward Seat
Before you spend a cent on points, the most important step is making sure there's actually a reward seat available on the date you want to travel.
Reward seats are limited. Airlines only release a small number per flight, and Singapore Airlines tends to release 1 to 2 Business Class reward seats on most Australia–Singapore routes. So this is a search-and-timing game.
You can search for award availability two ways:
Option 1: Directly on Air Canada's website. Log into your Aeroplan account, enter your dates and route (e.g. Brisbane to Singapore), and tick "Book with points." Any flight where you see 45,000 points displayed is a reward seat you can book.
Option 2: Use a tool like Seats.aero. Seats.aero scans every reward seat available across Aeroplan in seconds, showing you availability across dates, airports and seat counts at a glance. It's a serious time-saver when you're hunting for a specific route or trying to find availability for two passengers.

Once you've found a seat with 45,000 points + around CA$136 (~A$145) in fees and taxes, you know exactly how many points you need to buy.
Step 3: Buy Aeroplan Points Using the 90% Bonus Promo
Here's where the magic happens.
Aeroplan is currently running a 90% bonus promo when you buy points — one of the strongest promotions they've run all year. The offer ends 31st May 2026, (right before the change in points for fares) so this is a now-or-never window if you want to capitalise on it.
Here's how the bonus tiers work:
- Buy 4,000–25,000 points: 40% bonus
- Buy 30,000–60,000 points: 60% bonus
- Buy 70,000–500,000 points: 90% bonus
Note: tier thresholds can vary — log in to Aeroplan to see your personal offer. Some readers may receive different bonus amounts.
With the 90% bonus applied, you're effectively paying around 1.97 cents (CAD) per Aeroplan point.
Important to note: This will work best if buying return flights given a 45,000 point purchase (one way amount) will only unlock 60% bonus.
The Maths for a Singapore Business Class Flight
To unlock a Business Class flight to Singapore, you need 45,000 Aeroplan points per person each way. At the 90% bonus rate, here's what a return trip for two looks like:
- Cost of 180,000 Aeroplan points (with-bonus): ~CA$3,750
- Fees and taxes payable to Singapore Airlines: ~CA$544
- Total cost in Canadian dollars: ~CA$4,294
- Total cost in Australian dollars: ~A$4,367
Compare that to the cash price for two return approx. A$9,000–$11,000 for the same seats, and you're looking at a saving of roughly 50%!
This Works for More Than Just Singapore
The 45,000-points-in-Business sweet spot isn't limited to Singapore. The same redemption rate applies across South East Asia and into parts of North Asia.
🇹🇭 Bangkok with Thai Airways
Aeroplan also unlocks Thai Airways Business Class between Australia and Bangkok for the same 45,000 points + ~A$130 in fees. Thai Airways is a Star Alliance partner with a reputation for warm service, a fully flat bed in Business, and excellent lounge access in Bangkok.
Availability is a little tighter than Singapore Airlines, but Thai still releases reward seats reasonably consistently — especially out of Sydney. If your trip can flex by a few days, you'll usually find something.
🇯🇵 Tokyo with ANA
Aeroplan also lets you redeem on ANA (All Nippon Airways) between Sydney and Tokyo Haneda — 45,000 points one-way in Business Class. ANA is widely regarded as one of the best Business Class products in Asia.
The big caveat: ANA award availability is notoriously tight. ANA typically only releases 1 Business Class seat per flight to Aeroplan, and they often release seats close to departure rather than 11 months out. If you're targeting Tokyo, flexibility on dates is essential — but when you find a seat, it's one of the best uses of 45,000 points.
Remember: Price Changes Incoming
How to Make This Strategy Work for You
The play-by-play summary:
- Sign up to Aeroplan for free. Takes 2 minutes.
- Find a Business Class reward seat on Air Canada's website or Seats.aero. Look for the 45,000-point pricing.
- Buy the exact number of points you need using the 90% bonus promo before it expires on 31st of May, 2026.
- Book the flight immediately once your points hit your account (usually within minutes, though it can take up to 72 hours).
A couple of important rules to remember:
- Never buy points speculatively. Always confirm there's a reward seat available before you purchase the points. Reward availability can disappear in hours, so move quickly.
- Reward seats are limited. If you need two seats together, your options narrow significantly. If you need three or four, expect to split across departures or dates.
- Aeroplan award availability fluctuates. What's there today might be gone tomorrow. Once you've found a seat, don't wait.
