How to Save $400 off Top Restaurants Per Year

with American Express Platinum Card

Save up to $400 per year on restaurants with the Amex Platinum Dining Credit. See how the benefit works & how to get access!

One of the easiest ways to get real value from the American Express Platinum Card is the annual dining credit.

If you hold the Amex Platinum Card, you can receive up to $400 in dining credits each year: up to $200 to spend at participating restaurants in Australia and up to $200 to spend at participating restaurants overseas. American Express says the benefit gives Platinum Card Members up to $400 to spend at over 2,000 restaurants around the world, with up to $200 in Australia and up to $200 internationally.

This is one of the better Amex Platinum perks because it can be used at genuinely premium restaurants across Australia, including venues in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide, Canberra, Byron Bay, Newcastle and more.

Quick summary

Offer: Up to $400 Amex Platinum Dining Credit

Australian credit: Up to $200 at participating Australian restaurants

International credit: Up to $200 at participating overseas restaurants

Eligible card: American Express Platinum Card

How the Amex Platinum Dining Credit works

The Amex Platinum Dining Credit is split into two parts:

$200 Local Dining Credit - This can be used at participating restaurants in Australia.

$200 Abroad Dining Credit - This can be used at participating restaurants overseas.

Together, that gives eligible Platinum Card Members up to $400 in dining credits per year when used correctly.

The key thing to remember is that this is not a general restaurant credit. It only works at participating restaurants, and the restaurant needs to be on the eligible list at the time you dine.

American Express also notes that the Australian dining benefit is only available for dine-in services made in person at participating restaurants, and the participating restaurant list can change without notice.

Why this is one of the best Amex Platinum benefits

The Amex Platinum Card has a high annual fee, so the real value comes from actually using the benefits.

The dining credit is one of the easiest ones to understand.

If you were already planning to eat at a nice restaurant, this can effectively reduce the cost of a lunch, date night, birthday dinner, client meal, anniversary dinner or overseas dining experience.

For example, if you spend $220 at an eligible Australian restaurant, you could receive up to $200 back as a statement credit.

Then, when travelling overseas, you could use the separate $200 international dining credit at an eligible restaurant overseas.

That is where the full $400 annual value comes from.

How to use the Amex Platinum Dining Credit

Using the credit is simple, but there are a few steps you do not want to miss.

1. Check Enrolment

Before dining, check your card is enrolled by logging in and checking saved offers in your American Express account or app.

Do not assume the credit will apply automatically unless it states saved to card.

2. Choose a participating restaurant

Pick a restaurant from the eligible Amex Dining Collection.

Because the list can change, check the restaurant is still participating before you dine.

3. Dine in person

For the Australian dining credit, the benefit applies to dine-in services made in person at participating restaurants. It is not something I would rely on for takeaway, delivery, gift cards or third-party booking platforms unless the current Amex terms specifically allow it.

4. Pay with your enrolled Amex Platinum Card

Use the enrolled Platinum Card to pay the bill directly with the restaurant.

5. Wait for the statement credit

After the eligible transaction is processed, the credit should appear as a statement credit on your account. Usually appears within 3 days.

Final thoughts

This is one of the easiest Amex Platinum benefits to extract real value from and is a no brainer from extracting max value from your card!
