Most Aussies do the weekly groceries, tap their credit card and call it a day. That earns about 1 point per $1. On a $250 weekly shop, that's roughly 13,000 points a year.
Not bad... but it's leaving most of the points on the table. The same $250 shop can earn 100,000+ frequent flyer points a year. That's up to 10x more, from groceries you're buying anyway. π
The one tip: stop thinking of your shop as one payment, and start stacking. Every dollar can earn points in several places at once. Here's how the first 4 levels of our grocery guide work.
Level 1: Pay with a points-earning card
This is where most people stop. Use a card that earns Qantas Points (or Velocity) on every grocery shop, and pay it off in full each month so interest never eats your points.
No credit card? Qantas Pay earns 1 Qantas Point per $4 spent in Australia. Lower, but it all counts.

Level 2: Scan Everyday Rewards and Flybuys
Now earn the supermarket's own points on top of your card points.
β’ Join Everyday Rewards (Woolworths, BIG W, BWS) and Flybuys (Coles, Liquorland).
β’ Link Everyday Rewards to Qantas, and Flybuys to Velocity.
β’ Change both from "$10 off" to convert to frequent flyer points. The $10 off option is the worst value.
β’ Scan on every single shop.
π‘ About +6,500 frequent flyer points a year (1 Everyday Rewards or Flybuys point per $1, which converts 2:1).
Level 3: Add Everyday Extras
Everyday Extras (and Coles Plus Saver if you shop at Coles) doubles your base supermarket points and gives you 10% off one shop a month.
Use the 10% off on your biggest shop of the month. On a $250 shop it's worth more than the monthly fee, so the double points are basically a free bonus.

Level 4: Stack with gift cards (the double dip)
Instead of paying for your shop with your card directly, you pay for it with gift cards bought where they earn points.
β’ Buy Woolworths or WISH gift cards (both work at Woolworths) through Qantas Marketplace for 1 Qantas Point per $1, or through Everyday Rewards for 1 Everyday Rewards point per $1.
β’ Pay for the gift cards with your points-earning card from Level 1.
β’ Use the gift cards for your normal shop, and still scan Everyday Rewards.
Now you're earning on the card, on the gift card and on the shop itself. Watch for promos too: these can lift gift cards to 3 Qantas Points per $1 at Qantas Marketplace, or 6 Everyday Rewards points per $1. Stock up when one's running.
π‘ About +13,000 points a year, and more when a promo is on.
Bonus tip: Boost every offer
Before every shop, open the Everyday Rewards and Flybuys apps and tap Boost on every offer. Unboosted offers earn nothing. It takes 30 seconds and adds roughly another 1 point per $1 you spend.
Where you are now: about 3x the points
Stack those together and the same $250 weekly shop goes from about 13,000 points a year to around 45,000. Same groceries. Same store. Just a few minutes of setup.
But here's the thing...
The real points start here π
Levels 1 to 4 are the foundation. The big jump to 100,000+ points a year comes from the targeted bonus point offers, the "spend $X a week for 3 weeks" offers that land in your app.
These can be worth 10,000 to 18,000+ points each. Most people get one every now and then by luck. But there are ways to greatly increase how often you get them, and how big they are.
That's what levels 5, 6 and 7 of the guide cover, step by step.

Earning the points is step one
The real win is spending them on Business Class instead of toasters and gift cards. 100,000 points is enough for a one-way Business Class seat to Japan every year, from your shopping.
Inside The Points Hub you get the full grocery guide, The Points Flywheel tool to track every level, and the Business Class reward seats we find every day so you can actually use those points. βοΈ

Points estimates are rough, based on a $250 weekly shop. Your card's earn rate and the bonus offers you receive will vary.
