Big news for Velocity members: ShopBack now lets you turn your cashback into Velocity Points. No fees, and every $1 of cashback becomes 50 Velocity Points.
That means almost every online purchase can now earn you Velocity Points on top of your credit card points. And if you join ShopBack through our link, you can pick up 1,000 bonus Velocity Points as well 👇
🆕 What's changed?
ShopBack is a cashback site. You click through it before you shop online (hotels, travel, fashion, tech and more), and the store pays you a percentage back as cashback.
Until now you could only withdraw that cashback to your bank account. Now there's a new option: Redeem as points, straight into your Velocity Frequent Flyer account.
Here's how it converts:
💵 $5 cashback (the minimum) = 250 Velocity Points
💵 $20 cashback = 1,000 Velocity Points
💵 $100 cashback = 5,000 Velocity Points
💵 $200 cashback = 10,000 Velocity Points
✈️ What that looks like on a real booking
Say you book a $1,000 hotel through ShopBack at 5% cashback. That's $50 cashback, which becomes 2,500 Velocity Points. In other words, about 2.5 Velocity Points per dollar, on top of whatever your card earns.
ShopBack regularly boosts the cashback on travel sites like Agoda, Klook, Booking.com and Flight Centre, and when it does, your points jump with it. At 10% cashback you're earning 5 Velocity Points per dollar.
Cashback rates change often and boosted rates only last a short time, so always check the rate before you book.
🧱 How to add it to your earning stack
Whenever you buy something online, think in layers:
1. Pay with a points-earning card. That's always your first layer.
2. Check for a points-earning gift card. If there's a gift card for that store you can buy for points, use it.
3. No gift card offer? Use ShopBack. Click through ShopBack before you buy, earn cashback, then redeem it as Velocity Points.
💡 Use one or the other, not both. Many stores won't pay cashback on any part of an order paid with a gift card, and cashback sites and points shopping portals usually can't track the same purchase. Pick whichever pays more.
🎁 How to get 1,000 bonus Velocity Points
If you're new to ShopBack, sign up through our link and you'll get a $20 bonus once you've earned your first $20 in cashback. Redeem that bonus as points and it's another 1,000 Velocity Points.
So your first $20 of cashback can become 2,000 Velocity Points in total. Here's how:
1. Join ShopBack using our link 👉 https://app.shopback.com/x70HBlrqA7b
2. Shop through ShopBack until you've earned at least $20 in cashback. A hotel booking or one bigger online purchase usually gets you there.
3. Your $20 bonus lands in your ShopBack balance.
4. Go to your balance, choose Redeem as points, add your Velocity number and redeem.
⚠️ Your first name, last name and Velocity membership number must match your Velocity account exactly, or ShopBack will reject the redemption and you'll have to try again. Points usually land within about 10 working days.
This is our referral link. Escape of the Week may receive a benefit if you join through it, at no extra cost to you. Referral terms are set by ShopBack and can change, so check the current terms when you sign up.
💭 Should you take cash or points?
If you'd rather have the cash, that's fine. But if you're saving for a Business Class seat, where Velocity Points can be worth 2 cents or more each, 50 points per dollar of cashback can be worth more than the dollar itself.
You will technically be earning points at a earn rate of 2c per point but for those using their points on business class reward seats that value can be multiplied to 3-5c each meaning you could get a significant increase in value at redemption.
And remember, points are only half the job. The hard part is finding Business Class reward seats to use them on. Inside The Points Hub, we search for the best Business Class reward seats every day and share them with members, along with the training and tools to book them. 👉 Join The Points Hub
