Booking hotels in 2026 is not as simple as jumping on the first website you find and locking in the cheapest nightly rate.
The real savings now come from knowing where to book, how to stack offers, and which platform gives you the best combination of price, perks, cashback and points.
Sometimes the best deal is the cheapest rate.
Sometimes it’s a luxury hotel package with breakfast, dining credit and late checkout.
Sometimes it’s earning 3 Qantas Points per $1 on a hotel package.
And sometimes the smartest move is booking through a cashback portal like ShopBack or TopCashback to get an extra 5–12% back.
Here are the top sites I’d check before booking hotels in 2026.
1. Amex Fine Hotels + Resorts
Best for: luxury hotels, premium perks, early check-in, late checkout and added value
If you have access to American Express Fine Hotels + Resorts, this is one of the first places I would check for luxury hotel bookings.
The nightly rate is not always the cheapest, but the value can be excellent once you factor in the benefits.
With Fine Hotels + Resorts bookings, eligible Platinum Card Members can receive benefits such as 12pm check-in when available, a room upgrade when available, daily breakfast for two, a US$100 property credit, complimentary Wi-Fi and guaranteed 4pm checkout. American Express also says Fine Hotels + Resorts bookings delivered an average total value of more than US$550 per stay based on 2024 bookings for two-night stays.
In my experience, this can be one of the best ways to book luxury hotels.
While early check-in and upgrades are not guaranteed, I’ve been able to check into hotels as early as 9am before, and I’d estimate I’ve received room upgrades around 50% of the time.
The guaranteed 4pm checkout is also massive, especially if you have a late flight. It can turn your final day from awkwardly storing bags and killing time into a proper extra day at the hotel.
Another thing I love about Amex Fine Hotels + Resorts is that you can sometimes find extra promotions layered on top of the standard benefits, such as third night free offers, increased dining credits, or extra hotel-specific perks.
Why it can be worth using:
- Daily breakfast for two can save a lot at luxury hotels
- Guaranteed 4pm checkout is genuinely valuable
- US$100 property credit can be used for eligible hotel charges
- Room upgrades can be excellent when available
- Early check-in can sometimes be honoured well before midday
- Some properties offer extra limited-time deals
My take: Always compare the cash rate, but if the price is close, Amex Fine Hotels + Resorts can easily be the better overall deal.
2. Luxury Escapes
Best for: premium holiday packages, bundled inclusions and big resort savings
Luxury Escapes is one of the best places to check when you want more than just a hotel room.
The real value is often in the packages: breakfast, resort credit, transfers, room upgrades, dining inclusions, spa credits, or bonus nights.
Some Luxury Escapes deals are not saving you that much once you compare the true nightly rate elsewhere. But others can save you hundreds or even thousands of dollars, especially for luxury resorts and longer stays.
I recently booked One&Only in Dubai through Luxury Escapes, and the total savings compared with booking the same style of trip elsewhere were in the thousands.
That is where Luxury Escapes can shine.
Not every deal is a no-brainer, but when the package is strong, it can beat a standard hotel booking site by a long way.
What to check before booking:
- Compare the same dates directly with the hotel
- Check whether breakfast is included
- Look at room type carefully
- Check cancellation terms
- See whether resort credit, transfers or dining inclusions are included
- Compare the total package value, not just the nightly price
My take: Luxury Escapes is one of the best platforms for package-style savings, but you still need to compare the deal properly.
3. Qantas Luxury Holidays
Best for: Qantas Points, luxury packages and bundled hotel deals
Qantas Luxury Holidays is different from simply booking a hotel through Qantas Hotels.
This section focuses on curated luxury holiday packages, often with exclusive inclusions, hotel-only packages, fly-and-stay deals, savings and bonus perks.
Qantas Luxury Holidays currently promotes benefits such as exclusive savings, VIP inclusions, the ability to use points, earning 3 Qantas Points per $1 spent, bundled flight-and-hotel savings, and Status Credits on eligible flights.
That 3 Qantas Points per $1 earn rate can be very useful if you’re booking a larger hotel or holiday package.
For example, a $5,000 eligible package could earn around 15,000 Qantas Points before considering any credit card points you might also earn.
The other advantage is that Qantas Luxury Holidays can sometimes include extras like breakfast, guaranteed upgrades, drinks, food and beverage credits, or late checkout depending on the package. On Qantas’ current deals page, some offers show savings of several hundred dollars, with examples including hotel package savings and fly-and-stay package savings.
Why I’d check it:
- Earn 3 Qantas Points per $1
- Some packages include luxury hotel inclusions
- You can find hotel-only or flight-and-hotel packages
- Some offers show meaningful advertised savings
- Great option if you actively collect Qantas Points
My take: If you care about Qantas Points, this should be one of the first places you check before booking a luxury hotel or package.
4. Booking.com x ShopBack
Best for: mainstream hotel bookings plus cashback
Booking.com is one of the most popular hotel booking sites, but I wouldn’t rely on booking directly through Booking.com alone.
The better move is to check whether ShopBack has an active Booking.com cashback offer before you book.
Depending on the promo, you may be able to save around 5–10% cashback on eligible bookings, which can be a huge difference on a larger hotel stay.
For example, if you were booking a $2,000 hotel stay, even 7% cashback could be worth around $140 back.
That is the kind of saving most people miss because they go straight to the booking site and forget to check a cashback portal first.
How I’d use it:
- Search for the hotel and dates on Booking.com
- Check the price and cancellation policy
- Open ShopBack and search for Booking.com
- Read the cashback terms carefully
- Click through ShopBack before booking
- Keep screenshots and confirmation emails
My take: Booking.com is convenient, but Booking.com through ShopBack can be much better when cashback rates are strong.
5. Agoda x TopCashback
Best for: cheap rates plus high cashback promos
Agoda is often one of the cheapest places to find hotel rates, especially across Asia.
But the deal can get even better when you stack Agoda with TopCashback.
TopCashback regularly runs Agoda cashback promos, and I’ve seen offers around 10–12% cashback at times. On a large hotel booking, that can be a serious saving.
This is where Agoda can be very powerful.
But there is one important warning: always confirm directly with the hotel after booking.
I’ve had cases where it could have become very awkward because the hotel did not seem to have my reservation properly showing. Agoda support is generally more online-chat focused rather than phone-based, so if something goes wrong while travelling, it can be more stressful than booking direct.
That doesn’t mean don’t use Agoda.
It just means be organised.
How to avoid problems:
- Book early where possible
- Screenshot your booking confirmation
- Email or call the hotel directly after booking
- Ask the hotel to confirm your reservation, room type and dates
- Keep a copy of Agoda’s confirmation number
- Be careful with non-refundable bookings
- Read the cashback terms before clicking through TopCashback
My take: Agoda x TopCashback can be one of the cheapest ways to book hotels, but always confirm directly with the hotel after booking.
My hotel booking checklist for 2026
Before booking any hotel, I’d check these five places:
- Amex Fine Hotels + Resorts for luxury perks
- Luxury Escapes for packaged savings
- Qantas Luxury Holidays for Qantas Points and bundled inclusions
- Booking.com via ShopBack for cashback
- Agoda via TopCashback for cheap rates plus cashback
The best platform will depend on the trip.
For a luxury hotel, I’d usually check Amex Fine Hotels + Resorts first.
For a resort package, I’d check Luxury Escapes.
For a points-friendly package, I’d check Qantas Luxury Holidays.
For a regular hotel stay, I’d compare Booking.com x ShopBack and Agoda x TopCashback.
Final thoughts
The cheapest hotel website is not always the best hotel deal.
In 2026, the smartest travellers are comparing the full value:
- Room rate
- Cashback
- Qantas Points
- Breakfast
- Room upgrades
- Late checkout
- Dining credits
- Resort credits
- Cancellation flexibility
- Booking reliability
That is where the real savings happen.
A hotel might look $50 cheaper on one site, but if another platform includes breakfast, a US$100 credit, 4pm checkout, Qantas Points or 10% cashback, the “more expensive” option may actually be the better deal.
My simple rule:
Never book a hotel until you’ve checked the points, cashback and package options first.
That one habit could save you hundreds, and sometimes thousands, of dollars a year.
