Crown Towers Sydney

How I Saved 30% Off with Agoda & Cashback!

See how I saved over 30% off Crown Towers Sydney by comparing direct rates, Booking.com, Agoda and TopCashback. Plus the important Agoda booking warning you need to know before check-in.

Hotel prices can vary massively depending on where you book — and this Crown Towers Sydney example proves exactly why you should never rely on one booking site.

For the same stay, I found three very different prices:

Direct with Crown: $854

Booking.com: $1,091

Agoda: $644

Agoda + TopCashback: 12% cashback available

That means Agoda was already significantly cheaper than booking direct, but when stacked with 12% cashback through TopCashback, the savings became even better.

Cashback:

If you're not a member of TopCashback yet use our affiliate link here to sign up!

They have great cashback offers for all of the major travel sites!

But, it's always worthwhile checking how it compares with Shopback as they also have great deals! Our affiliate link is here!

I've actually got a brand new tool coming out to help you compare them directly! You can pre register here (it will probably be live by the time you're reading this)

The Crown Towers Sydney price comparison

Here’s how the rates compared:

The Agoda rate was for a Room Assigned on Arrival booking.

This is something worth looking for when booking luxury hotels, especially if you’re happy with the lowest category room and don’t need a specific room type guaranteed.

How much did I save?

Compared with booking directly at $854, the Agoda rate of $644 saved:

$210 before cashback

That is already around 25% off the direct rate.

Then, with 12% cashback through TopCashback, the effective price could drop even further.

12% cashback on $644 is approximately:

$77 cashback

That brings the effective cost down to roughly:

$567

Compared with the $854 direct rate, that is a saving of around:

$287

Or roughly:

34% off

So realistically, this was around a 30%+ saving compared with booking direct.

The Agoda trick: look for “Room Assigned on Arrival”

If you’re booking the lowest category room anyway, look out for the Room Assigned on Arrival option on Agoda.

This can sometimes price cheaper than selecting a specific entry-level room.

It usually means the hotel assigns your room when you arrive, based on availability.

That can be a great way to save money if you’re flexible, but it’s important to understand what you’re booking.

You probably should not choose this option if:

You need a specific room type (i.e You need twin beds or you need a guaranteed view)

But if you’re simply trying to get into a luxury hotel for the lowest price possible, it can be a great option to check.

The important warning: always confirm your booking

This is where the booking almost became stressful.

About a week before travelling, I called Crown Towers Sydney directly to confirm they had received my Agoda booking.

They had not.

That is obviously not what you want to hear before arriving, especially if you’re arriving late at night or travelling for a special occasion.

I then tried calling Agoda.

After being on hold for over an hour, nobody answered.

Not ideal.

Thankfully, Agoda’s online chat was actually very helpful. They sorted it out within about 30 minutes, and the booking was confirmed properly.

But it was still stressful — and it could have been much worse if I had only discovered the issue at check-in.

My rule when booking through Agoda

Agoda can be excellent for finding cheaper hotel rates, especially when stacked with cashback.

But my rule now is simple:

Always confirm directly with the hotel before you travel.

After booking through Agoda, I’d recommend:

  • Wait for your booking confirmation email
  • Save screenshots of your booking and payment
  • Contact the hotel directly a few days later
  • Ask them to confirm they can see your reservation
  • Confirm the dates, guest name and room type
  • Keep all confirmations handy when travelling

Would I still use Agoda?

Yes — but carefully.

This Crown Towers Sydney booking shows why Agoda can be incredibly powerful.

The price was far cheaper than booking direct, and when combined with TopCashback, the savings were huge.

But the experience also reminded me why third-party hotel bookings come with extra risk.

If everything works smoothly, you can save hundreds.

If something goes wrong, you may need to deal with online chat, booking references, hotel confirmation issues, and a bit of stress.

So my honest take is:

Use Agoda when the savings are meaningful, but always confirm the booking directly with the hotel.

For small savings, booking direct may be worth the peace of mind.

For big savings like this Crown Towers example, Agoda can absolutely be worth it — as long as you do the extra confirmation step.
