Velocity has just launched a Points Booster sale β up to 40% off buying Velocity Points. It runs for one week only and closes 11:59pm AEST on Wednesday 27 August 2026. π
This matters more than a Qantas points sale would. Qantas members have a dozen ways to pick up points cheaply β shopping portals, wine, gift cards, bonus promos running most weeks. Velocity has far fewer, and Points Booster sales are a worthwhile option to get extra Velocity points fast!
Below: the exact discount at every tier, what you actually pay per point, the quirk that lets you dodge the annual purchase cap, and the one buying mistake that costs you money for no reason.
π° What you actually pay per point
Velocity's standard rate for larger purchases is a flat 2.34 cents per point. The sale discount comes off that. Here's how it lands:
50,000 β 100,000 Points β 30% off
50,000 Points - $820 - 1.64c per point
100,000 Points - $1,638 - 1.64c per point
110,000 β 240,000 Points β 35% off
150,000 Points - $2,282 - 1.52c per point
200,000 Points - $3,042 - 1.52c per point
250,000 Points β 40% off
250,000 Points - $3,510 - 1.40c per point
β οΈ The mistake that costs you for nothing
Never buy exactly 100,000 Points.
100,000 sits at the top of the 30% tier. Push to 110,000 and you cross into the 35% tier β so you pay roughly $35 more and get 10,000 extra Points. Same money, better rate, more points.
If you were going to buy 100,000, buy 110,000 instead. Confirm the exact price at checkout before you commit.
ποΈ The annual cap loophole
Velocity normally caps you at 250,000 purchased Points per calendar year. For this sale there's a window where that cap doesn't apply.
Points bought before 11:58pm AEST on Sunday 23 August do not count towards your annual limit. From 11:59pm on 23 August, everything you buy counts as normal.
So if you've already bought Points this year and hit your cap, the first four days of this sale are your window β and it's the only part of the promo with a genuinely different deadline to the rest.
βοΈ Where these Points are actually worth using
Buying points only makes sense if you get more than 1.40cβ1.64c of value back. That means premium cabins. In economy the numbers rarely work β Velocity's own example of Melbourne to Los Angeles at 48,000 Points plus $139.95 in taxes costs about $814 all-in at the sale rate, which is roughly what a cash economy fare runs.
Where Velocity Points genuinely shine is business class reward seats on the following routes:
ππ° Hong Kong β Hong Kong Airlines. velocity just recently updated their website, so business class reward availability to and from Hong Kong now appears on the site.
π―π΅ Tokyo β ANA. One of the best premium products flying to Japan, and also bookable with Velocity Points but getting reward availability is tough.
πΈπ¬ Singapore β Singapore Airlines. Bookable online, and Velocity also transfers to KrisFlyer at 1.55:1 if you'd rather book on their side. availability to and from Singapore is often good with Velocity points
πͺπΊ Europe β Qatar Airways via Doha: Qatar's Qsuite to Europe is the standout use of Velocity Points and the reason most people top up.
